About the programme
The Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Water Laws, Policy, and Governance for the academic year 2025–26, jointly offered by Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad (MNLUA) and the Water Policy Center, is a pioneering academic initiative aimed at equipping professionals, researchers, and policy practitioners with comprehensive knowledge and critical skills in the field of water governance. This interdisciplinary programme is designed in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and responds to India’s urgent need for trained human resources in the water sector amid increasing challenges such as water scarcity, inter-state river disputes, climate-induced hydrological variability, and the growing demand for equitable and sustainable water management. Through a rigorous blend of legal, policy, environmental, and technical perspectives, the PGD offers in-depth modules on water law frameworks, policy formulation and analysis, institutional and regulatory governance, international water law, and emerging issues such as water rights, climate change, and community-based water management. Delivered in a blended learning mode, the course is enriched with lectures by domain experts, interactive sessions, real-world case studies, and field-based engagements. This programme is especially suited for legal professionals, civil servants, engineers, researchers, development practitioners, and NGO personnel seeking to contribute meaningfully to the governance and sustainable management of water resources in India and beyond.
